What next?

Many of you have asked, "What next?" "When do you get Moosh?"

As with everything in adoption, we don't know a timeline for sure. But we do know what the next steps will be.

Right now, the courts are closed. Our paperwork is being gathered to be submitted to court as soon as it reopens at the end of the month. Once they get our paperwork, they will give us a court date. We hope to hear in October what date they will give us. We are hoping they give us a December court date. But there are no guarantees.

Before we go to Ethiopia, a hearing will take place with the orphanage, any living relative(s), and the Ministry of Women's Affairs for Ethiopia. This is where they will make sure that our Moosh is indeed available and verify everything before we show up. If a birth relative were to give up any rights, it would be done in this meeting. If there is no birth parent or relative available, then the authorities would verify this.

So, yes, we are still waiting. But things are happening. Also, we are working so that we have extra income for our plane tickets. Stay tuned more info on that...

So you guys don't have to make the 2 trips that are now required? From my understanding (which is limited at this point!) everyone with a court date after May 2010 has to be present for the court hearing and then go back to bring the child home...is that not right? Thanks in advance for clarifying!

You are so correct, Laura! I'm so sorry that we did not clarify that. The info in the last post was about our court date. The court date is first and the embassy date is second. First we get the adoption final in court and then we meet at the embassy for his visa appointment. The post was referring to when we would meet him. We are hoping to bring him home in March or April at the latest.
